The Letter "J"
Having lost my job which made me move to this city, I was freaking our every single passing day.
I already was totally finding it difficult adapting to the city, unemployment made it worse.
Like many of us, I tried getting into social networks, job pages etc.
I came across this dating app, which allows people to interact basis mutual likes.
Since I was a bit sceptical about these apps, I didn't use my complete name, just the initial, J.
I got mixed responses, some as abrupt, lewd as to make me delete my profile, and some real sensible ones.
There was one profile which I matched on the first day, and never did any of us initiate the chat. It always intrigued me, as we matched in ten different dating apps and social pages. It just said "J" too.
Fifth month of my stay , I got a job in a different city.
I had always loved to explore places alone, and I decided to do it in the last week of my stay here.
After wandering throughout the city, I entered a retro pub. I ordered for a drink of wine and started looking at the list of historical places on a wall nearby.
"So finally we meet ", said a voice behind me.
I turned and in an instant could recognise the face. I just smiled and managed to mumble a weak "J?"
I offered him a seat and we started talking. After an hour we were interrupted by a group of boys and girls , pointing at him saying , "you could have informed us".
We smiled, he bid them goodbye and came back. Our conversation lasted for hours. Since my place was nearby, we chose to walk. The cool breeze and the empty roads felt just perfect. I was two lanes away from my home. Getting a bit cautious, I stopped.
"I would go from here, thanks for a lovely evening", I said offering my hand.
He smiled, shook my hand and said, " Yea, Destiny!"
I came home, he was all I could think of. I opened my emails, facebook, just to divert my mind. I ended up pinging a friend of mine, whom I know I can disturb any time, and narrated the entire story.
The first reaction I got was," Wow, what's his name?"
I panicked, four hours and we didn't even ask each other's name, or exchanged numbers!
I opened my hand bag to look for my phone, and to my utter shock, I discovered having it lost.
I had my friend call the pub and they didn't have it either.
I spent the entire night in anticipation.
I got a spare number and phone from my friend and failed logging into all of my apps, which needed authentication from my number.
"Destiny", I sighed and packed my bag to leave.
I eventually got access to my old number and apps, but never could find him again. I used to imagine being interrupted by the same voice everywhere.
I came back to the city after an year for a meeting. In the evening, went to the same pub, sat by the same table.
I kept looking at the same wall, the list of historical places was replaced by pictures of "happening events"!
In the bottom right corner .. It had a post-it note "J"- the Manager.
I wasn't sure what to do next, I rushed to the Manager, and blabbered the story in the simplest possible sentences.
He asked me to sit and have a glass of water, and went to his office.
He came back in five minutes, and gave me a number.
I snatched it from him saying thanks and dialled it.
My heart was thumping louder than the calling ring.
He said hello, I said, "J" !
